Church History
The church was organized in 1859.
Excerpt from "History of Eden Methodist Church" written for 1950
100 Year Celebration.
The
site upon which this church stands was deeded to the Trustees,
namely Mark Boon, Daniel Boon, Benjamin T. Walton, James Cleek,
Sr., George W. Hively, Fleeming Keyser and William Woodell for
he sum of one dollar on the 12th day of December 1859 by William
and Patsy Walsh. This property was for the use of the Methodist
Episcopal Church, to preach and expound God's word as long as it
is occupied by the same. But in the eventthe Methodists cease to
use it, it may be used by an other orthodox denomination....
Very little is known about the history of the church
prior to 1911.
At the fourth quarterly conference, June 23, 1915,
there was reported a membership of 214 which included the total
membership of the following churches - Ashwood, Bolar, Eden, Starr
Chapel, Mount Hope and Virginia Chapel.
The Trustees reported at that time that Eden Church
was valued at $400.00...........About six years ago the church
was remodeled and the addition made on the upper side for the Sunday
School rooms. The vestibule and the present porch were also added
at that time.
......The choirs are wearing robes for the first
time today which have been secured through a food sale and generous
donations. The capes the children's choir are wearing were made
by Mrs. Edna Kimberlin and Mrs. C. P. Broce.
